Swift Night Out at Allan Gardens

Join us to learn more about the Chimney Swift and witness the amazing spectacle of hundreds of swifts diving into a chimney to roost overnight. We will meet at Allan Gardens at 7:30 pm for coffee/tea, treats, and a short talk on swifts. We will then take a 15 minute walk over to Moss Park to watch the swifts spiral into the Moss Park Armoury chimney shortly after sunset. Rain or shine. Birds and Board Games - Pickering Central Library

Join Bird Studies Canada for an evening of bird-themed gaming! We have a whole pile of board games and card games that have a bird-related theme – come out and play with us!

This free event will take place at Pickering Central Library from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in the Makerspace. We have different games for all ages, so this event is great for families too.

Try your hand at a few rounds of different games, and have fun learning about birds, birding, and the evolution of flight, or just enjoy some beautifully illustrated cards and friendly competition.

World Migratory Bird Day 2018

Zamin-e-Farda is an Iranian NGO that recently celebrated World Migratory Bird Day by hosting a public meeting. During the event, a wildlife expert discussed the process of migration and the importance of bird conservation. Participants were introduced to a fascinating species called the Bar-tailed godwit, which scientists have only recently discovered has an incredible non-stop migration lasting 9 days. This unique behavior makes this bird truly amazing.

World Migratory Bird Day 2018 in Cambodia

Department of Freshwater Wetland Conservation of General Directorate of Administrative for Nature Conservation and Protection, Ministry of Environment organized awareness and education event “World Migratory Bird Day 2018” at Anlung Pring Protected Landscape where a flock of Sarus Crane and other shorebird such as Black-tailed Godwit using that area as feeding ground during their non-breeding period. This awareness event was celebrated on 9th and 10th May 2018 with support from Non-Government Organization partners including BirdLife International Cambodia Programme, Wildfowl and Wetland Tru

World Migratory Bird Day Spring Bird Count with Bighorn Audubon Society

Each year Bighorn Audubon Society participates in the World Migratory Bird Day Spring Bird Count, created in 1993 at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. The count is similar to Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count but is conducted on one day each year:  the second Saturday in May in the U.S. and Canada, and in October in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

World Migratory Bird Day at Discovery Cove Nature Center

The Discovery Cove Nature Center at Lake Thunderbird State Park will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day on Saturday with a slate of bird-related activities.

The nature center is off State Highway 9 on Clear Bay Avenue.

A bird walk at 9 a.m. will kick off the day's events. At 11 a.m., naturalist Kathy Furneaux will present a slideshow on “Birds of Lake Thunderbird.” Information and activities for children ages 4 to 7 will be presented at 1 p.m.
