Educational Activity

As previous years World Migratory Bird Day will be celebrated at Aras Bird Research and Education Center in Igdir, northeastern Turkey. Aras Valley is an important bird migration site where millions of passerines and soaring birds migrate from Africa to Eurasia and vice versa.

The 6th Regional Directorate of The Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs is organizing the WMBD in Burdur, southwestern Turkey with increasing participation of GOs and NGOs each year.

Burdur Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate is going to host the WMBD event with the participation of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University students, Turk Hava Kurumu Secondary School students and teachers, Burdur Birdwatching Society members, Lisinia Wildlife Rehabilitation Center team and volunteers, local people, GO and NGO representatives and press.

We plan to make the event happen along side the Lagos Carnival 2015. Thereby creating more awareness among carnival visitors. The flyers will be distributed and a banner will most likely be made. We hope to see you there.

Starting at 9:30 am tours in the national nature reserve with experts will guide visitors along the nature trails, through the fields, pastures and down to the lagoon to observe the birds. Ornithologists will be there to aid in monitoring (particularly for the collection of ringing data from flamingoes) and illustrate scientific monitoring techniques for migratory birds.

Starting at 10 am guided visits along the trails of the Lago di Burano nature reserve (Tuscany) to discover with expert guides the birds of the reserve. Walking through the mediterranean scrubland visitors will reach the sand dunes and beach to continue bird observations.  Visitors will also be introduced to bird ringing and the tecniques used for research and bird conservation.

On the 10th of May the italian zoo Parco Natura Viva is organizing the  "Fly Away ... with me" event to inform visitors about the theme of migration. Main character of the day would be the Northen Bald Ibis which, in the last years, is reconquering the italian sky thanks to a Life & Biodiversity Project. Parco Natura Viva is the only italian partner of this project that aim to teach to a flock of birds the migratory route from Austria to Tuscany in Italy. Our visitors could learn about this by playing a snakes and ladders game and children could create their own migrant Ibis.

Nature Iraq Organization, through its "Jensen Project for the Conservation of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Iraqi Central Marshes" together with BirdLife International, will celebrate this year's WMBD in the Central Marshes as the area is one of the most important wetland in the Middle East and the globe that receives many migratory and threatened bird species and is within the flyways of many global birds.

Birds of Gujarat in association with Gujarat Nature Education Park Vadodara, celebrating an education event and a bird-watching event for 2 days for school and college students.

The Biosfera is inviting all those who are interested to participate in a field trip (WWTP Mindelo) to have a class on migrating birds and discover the particularities of these tireless travelers. The event will take place on the 9th and 10th (Saturday and Sunday) meeting at the Biosfera Headquarters in Mindelo by 15:00 pm. Each participant is entitled to a field notebook for notes and Biosfera technicians, binoculars and telescopes will be at their disposal.
