As previous years World Migratory Bird Day will be celebrated at Aras Bird Research and Education Center in Igdir, northeastern Turkey. Aras Valley is an important bird migration site where millions of passerines and soaring birds migrate from Africa to Eurasia and vice versa.
Igdir Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate is organizing the WMBD event with Kafkas University, Igdir University, KuzeyDoga Society, Hazar College and Igdir 80. Yıl Cumhuriyet Anadolu High School and with the participation of Igdir Provincial Youth and Sport Directorate, Igdir Province Police Headquarters, Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, Provincial Gendarmerie Offices, students, teachers, managers, volunteers, local people and GO representatives.
The celebrations will start at Hazar College with a seminar about birds, bird ringing, bird migration and the biodiversity within the Aras valley and Igdir province. Then it will continue at Aras station through the weekend. There will be birdwatching along Aras Valley, students will be oriented for bird ringing, will check nets, collect birds and experience how they are ringed by the expert ringing specialists at Aras Bird Research and Education Center.
We will also be the only official organization from Turkey to participate in the first Global Big Day http://ebird.org/globalbigday/
