Organised birdwatching and education about bird migration for local school children.

This year, we will celebrate the WMBD in Sabkhat Julyanah which is one of most important wetlands in Libya. We chose this wetland because it faces some problems, so the idea of this celebration is to show its importance and also to increase the awareness of the local communities. The targeted groups will be the boys scouts, local governess and students from schools and university in addition to the local communities.

-Produce a video on environmental issues with an impact on migratory birds at 2 sites of Rusizi delta and Rwihinda Lac Managed Reserve -Spot at Burundi National TV on 11th May 2012 -Birdwatching on 12 May 2013: show the produced video to participants and organise an essay contest for young members

- Organisation d'un concours de sessin au profil de 40 écoliers issus des 4 établissement de Mâle(site de manifestation de la journée mondiale des oiseaux migrateurs; - Sorties de terrain, observations des oiseaux avec enseigants et écoliers suivies d'un débat sur l'importance du réseautage pour la conservation des oiseaux migrateurs et leus habitats; - Confections/affichages des banderoles aux differents points stratégiques à Nouakchott et à Mâle; - Publication d'un article sur le site web Mauritanien beta.mr.

Wed. 16OCT 2013: Preparatory team leaves Sana’a for Bab al-Mandab by land transportation via Taiz. Meet the authorities to discuss the details of the event. Dinner and overnight (o/n) camping in Bab al-Mandab. Thu, 17 OCT 2013: Early departure of all of the participants and stakeholders from Sana’a to Bab al-Mandab by land transportation (about 10 hours by a mini coach – 19 seats) via Taiz. Breakfast and lunch en route. Once arrived at Bab al-Mandab will do a bird-watching tour to see the landing MSBs.

Variconi is a Special Protected Area (according with EU Birds Directive) and an international Ramsar Area, since its role for bird migration. We organize a photographic workshop about telling a story by means of photography. Participants will be invited to describe why they think Variconi SPA is important for migrant birds, by using 5 photographs they will take on the field on 11 May 2013. Participants will be guided by members of the regional section of AFNI (Associazione Fotografi Naturalisti Italiani). The work will be published on the web site of the project “Biodoversita2020”.

The WMBD will solely be devoted to bird watching. The Event will be initiated in the Conference Hall of the Electricity Company. The bird watching will be conducted in Umshegaira Island in Khartoum State where migratory birds stop en route to the wintering sites or winter in the island. Families of electricity and waste management sectors will be invited to participate in the birds watching. The society will provide binoculars, telescopes, field guides as well as camping equipment. Two boats will be hired to take the guest to the island as well as a mini bus to transport them to the shore.
