Landscape Literacy by Artemisia Institute's Birding Club

The inaugural meeting of the Artemisia Institute's Birding Club will be May 12 from 9am-11am, the day after World Migratory Bird Day!
Led by institute Director Estraven Lupino-Smith, this birding outing will focus on identifying some local species, talking about ecosystems and habitats, and discussing what queering birding and other naturalist practices might look like while remembering that the best way to see birds is to stay quiet. Bring your binoculars! (and an extra pair to share)

The location is TBA, depending on accessibility needs.

Birds & Schools (WLI- Wetland Link International)

Students from Fish Creek School, Calgary will participate in The Birds and Schools initiative with other schools in the Americas.  They will focus on wetland migratory birds and plastic pollution during their visit to Ralph Klein Park, share their experience via video, and then join the other schools in a culminating video conference.

World Migratory Bird Day Celebration in Northern New Mexico

This year's World Migratory Bird Day theme is "Protect the Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution!" Bring the whole family to New Mexico Wildlife Center to help us celebrate wild birds and find ways to reduce the dangerous impact of plastics on them. See wild birds close up, watch live raptor presentations, learn about native species and how we can improve their habitats, have fun with activities for all ages, meet others in our communities who are working to help birds, and more. Food will be available for sale.

World Migratory Bird Day by Columbia Bottom Conservation Area

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area! See what makes Columbia Bottom an important stopover for many migratory birds, and discover ways you can help bird conservation. Kids can visit our activity stations to learn about migratory birds and earn a prize.

Birds and Schools video conference (in English)

A video conference between schools on the East Atlantic Flyway. Pupils will visit their local wetland centres in Sweden (Lake Takern), the Netherlands (Terschelling and Oostvaardersplassen) and the Basque Country (Urdaibai) during the week to learn about migratory birds, and count the individuals and species they see there. Then on Friday they will all meet online in a video conference, chaired from Slimbridge, UK. They will let their peers know the species they saw and what they learned.

A Bird Themed Poster Art Contest for local students Kindergarten through 6th Grade.

World Migratory Bird Day Festival by Sacajawea Audubon Society

Bozeman's 2nd annual WMBD Festival, presented by Sacajawea Audubon Society! On Friday, May 10th at 7pm at the Ellen Theater we are featuring the Bozeman premiere of Epic Yellowstone: Life on the Wing from Grizzly Creek Films and the Smithsonian Channel with a panel discussion and Q&A with the Bozeman based filmmakers. Then on Saturday, May 11th from 10am-1pm we will host a festival of family activities at the Bozeman Public Library. We will have games, crafts, and live birds!

World Migratory Bird Day Guided Walk by Friends of St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge

The Friends of St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail,  are hosting a guided walk with experienced birders from the Apalachee Audubon and from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Corps. We will be observing nesting areas of migratory and neo tropical birds that use St. Vincent Island as a flyway stopover and /or nesting area. We hope to see least terns, oystercatchers, brown pelicans and snowy plovers. The Refuge hosts over 56 species of migratory and other birds.

World Migratory Bird Day by The Vista Grande Public Library

The third annual World Migratory Bird Day at the Vista Grande Public Library in Eldorado at Santa Fe will feature several wild raptors from a local wildlife rescue organization, a demonstration of how,what and why birds are banded (by a member of the EFTA team), lectures about what to feed and care for both migratory and non-migratory birds in our area, how to identify birds here and just passing through, a bird house maker and a table with members of the Recycles 285 team talking about the need to recycle for the protection of all wildlife here in the high desert.
