World Migratory Bird Day is officially coming up on May 12th, but Fond du Lac is getting an early start on the celebration.
Fond du Lac was named one of Wisconsin’s “Bird Cities” in 2012, and Laura DeGolier says “we have to put on a celebration that reminds people of the value of birds, encourage people to plant bird habitat…and we do it at this time of the year, because that’s when the birds are moving.”
Birds know no borders. Many of the species that sing to us all summer have winter homes farther south in Central or South America. Some birds just pass through, and some settle in for the summer. Whatever their destination, May is a time of year where we can see many species in our parks. World Migratory Bird Day is a celebration of the diversity of birds that live among us, and a reminder of our ability to protect these animals as they travel extraordinary distances each year.
JOIN US to Celebrate Birds!

During our project of bird ringing to study the spring migration of birds (2018 is the 21st year of activity of our ringing station), we will also complete a detailed list of all the sightings of birds during the weekend and we will greet all the visitors of the National Park, explaining them the migration routes and the ecology of birds, and raising awareness about conservation.
