World Migratory Bird Day with Lake Victoria Sunset Birders

Lake Victoria Sunset Birders will participate in the World Migratory Bird Day from 8th-10th May 2008. The aim of this year’s activity will be to initiate birding in schools by promoting active participation in these activities.
The activities will include: a birding competition - this will involve organizing wildlife club students from three schools to participate in bird identification and bird counts of the migrant species.

The birds to be counted and identified are: Abdims Stork (Intra African Migrant); Yellow Wag tail(Palearctic Migrants); Eurasian/Common cuckoo (Palearctic migrant); White throated and the Eurasian Bee-eater.

The winners of the school birding competition will be given certificates that we believe will motivate the young students into birding.

On May 9th there will be an excursion to South Nandi. Other activities will include rock climbing, and birding at the South Nandi view point.
On May 10th, the Lake Victoria Sunset Birders will lead local community members on bird identification and counts at Yala swamp.
