The topography and climate of Pakistans provence Baluchistan have a great attraction to migratory birds coming from the freezing Central Asian Republic and Siberia. The Houbara Bustard is one of these migratory birds that come to Pakistan every year during the month of October & November. Their return usually starts during February & March.
In Pakistan there are two categories of Houbara Bustards, one migratory and the other one residential. The Nag Rakshan Valley District Washuk in Balochistan is the only place in Pakistan where residential Houbara Bustard can be found & breed. The Government of Pakistan declared the Nag Valley as Houbara Bustard breeding point & notified it as Provincial Bird of Balochistan.
In this valley, a local plant named Kareech is grown abundantly, of which flowers and leaves are a favorite food and provide breeding habitats for Houbara Bustards. Removal of those plants, have put its existence to severe danger. Due to non-availability of other energy sources local communities of the Nag Rakshan Valley use these plants to burn them in their kitchen.
Main purpose of this walk is to create awareness among the communities of Nag Rakshan Valley about the importance of the Houbara Bustard and the plants they depend on.
