The UNEP/AEWA Secretariat has the pleasure to invite you to a guided morning bird walk in order to celebrate this year’s World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD 2013)! When: 12 May (Sunday), 08.00-11.00 AM (meeting at LE gate at 07.30h) Where: Wahner Heide Protected Area Wahner Heide is located ca. 30 km north of Bonn and is adjacent to the Cologne-Bonn Airport. It is a popular area for walking and cycling. It is an interesting blend of wooded and more open areas and provides habitats to a number of migratory and resident species. In a single day you could easily see up to 20-30 species, mainly songbirds, but also some birds of prey and other species: Chaffinch, Robin, Stonechat, Tree Pipit, Whitethroat, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Linnet, Kestrel, Common Buzzard, etc. For more information on Wahner Heide please visit this link (in German): http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahner_Heide The terrain and walking distance are friendly and not challenging. We will cover a short walking distance (up to 3 km) and will often stop and listen to/observe birds. It is recommended that you take the following with you: - binoculars (this is essential birding equipment) - spotting scope (if available, however we will have at least one scope with us!) - comfortable walking shoes - hat (for sun protection) - sunscreen lotion (especially for after 11am if you intend to stay longer) - water - snack (in case you plan to stay longer) It is a nice opportunity to go out with your family, relatives of friends, see some birds and enjoy the rest of the day in the open. We would appreciate if you could indicate your interest so that we can have a rough idea of the expected size of the group (please confirm to [email protected]). Please indicate in case you can offer a car ride to other attendees (how many) or need a ride. We hope to see many of you there! Best wishes, UNEP/AEWA Secretariat www.unep-aewa.org
