Spring in Karelia 2013

Traditional spring birdwatching journey to Southern Karelia is organised annually since 1995 and has two main aims. The first one is to show the migrating flocks of waterfowl and other migratory birds on the largest spring stopover site on the flyway to the Russian Arctic tundra. The second target of the journey is to show the "routes of spring". The journey route is oriented from SW to NE, and spring is coming in the same direction. Thus, during the event we can look at the speed of spring, because in the target location (Olonets) phenological spring is some days back as compared to the start point in Saint-Petersburg.
