Spring Mirgration Celebration
We hope you'll plan to join us in early May for a celebration of the return of spring migrants and blossoming desert plants at Bosque del Apache!
For the first time ever, Friends will host a Spring Migration Celebration, set to take place Friday, May 5th - Saturday, May 6th. The event will include birding workshops, Friends Annual Meeting, a keynote presentation by Priyanka Kumar (author of Conversations with Birds) and our annual Desert Arboretum Stroll.
Beginning at 6:30am on Friday, May 5th, we've planned twelve guided, two and a half hour birding workshops spanning two days. Led by Holly Merker and Alex Harper, all levels of birding enthusiasts are welcome to register for and attend these paid workshops.
On Saturday, May 6th, (while the birding workshops continue) we will also offer three free events. Friends Annual Meeting from 10-11am will give you an overview of how Friends operates and what has been accomplished thanks to your donations and volunteer efforts. Following, from 11-12am, we will be treated to a keynote presentation by Priyanka Kumar, author of Conversations with Birds, which will include a book signing afterwards. While the Annual Meeting and Keynote are free of charge, we do ask that you register so that we can appropriately plan for indoor space. From noon-3pm, Friends staff and volunteers will host our annual Desert Arboretum Stroll, where you can marvel at the wonderful plants of the northern Chihuahuan Desert, many of which will be in bloom! This event is a “come-and-go-as-you-please” stroll through Bosque del Apache’s Desert Arboretum, and registration is not required to attend.
Throughout the two-day event on May 5th and 6th, you can purchase drinks and food from two food vendors and one coffee vendor on the Bosque del Apache plaza, adjacent to the Visitor Center. Vendors will be available from 9am to 4pm.
