Suchitoto is one of the most important tourist destinations in central El Salvador. Around the city there are rural communities where visitors can take different kinds of tours like horse back rides, hiking and trekking, learning history about the civil war, and boat trips in the nearby Ramsar site and IBA of Cerro Grande to name a few. Our focus is to spread the word about birding tours delivered by local birding tour guides who live in the communities of San Jose Palo Grande and Sitio El Zapotal. Aside from spreading the word about birding tours to fundraise for our educational programs throughout the year, we are going to spread the word about prevention of fires that are causing loss of habitat for resident and neotropical migrant species. There will also be some of our local partners like Hacienda Los Nacimientos, an organic farm where they grow the Jiquilite bush to get indigo dye and small lodges. Other partners include local tour operators like Guazapa tours, who are the very first among rural areas in El Salvador that deliver birding tours led by people within the local community of Sitio El Zapotal. The event is organized by the municipality of Suchitoto.
