Green Planet is organizing a classroom presentations and a birdwatching session at an urban wetland for the undergraduates of the coastal resources management programme of the Ocean University of Sri Lanka. The organizer is a freshly formed biodiversity conservation group comprising of experienced naturalists and ecologists from around the country.
In Sri Lanka, bird migratory season beings in September-October and ends in April- May. Hence the world migratory bird day that falls on 10th October is an ideal time to create awareness on wintering migratory birds and their habitats in Sri Lanka.
The student group for this educational programme was selected due to their academic relationship with wetland ecosystems, a vital habitat for the migratory birds in Sri Lanka.

Two class room presentations will be conducted:
1. Bird Migration and Migratory birds in Sri Lanka- by Tharanga Herath, Bird Specialist
2. Coastal wetlands & their importance with special concern as migratory bird habitats by Ajantha Palihawadana, Ecologist
3. Panel discussion on migratory birds and their habitat conservation.

An introductory birding session led by Green Planet and other bird experts will be conducted at one of the urban wetlands of the suburbs of Colombo. The participants would be a limited number of the undergraduates who attended the classroom presentations previous day.
