Conversations with a Curator: Ornithology and Ecosystems

The bird fauna of the Lowcountry often the subject of research and art. The Charleston Museum is home to an extensive ornithology collection including taxidermy mounts, eggs, nests, and study skins collected by both early and contemporary naturalists. Birds can be used as a gauge for the health of an ecosystem as well as useful for observing adaptation and natural selection. By better understanding birds and their roles in various habitats throughout the Lowcountry, and the world, scientists can determine how best to ensure their continued survival and overall health of our natural resources.
Join the Museum’s Curator of Natural History Matthew Gibson for the May installment of The Charleston Museum’s Conversations with a Curator to explore the various ecosystems of the Lowcountry and the beautiful birds that inhabit them. This program is free for members and free with admission, no registration necessary.
