Migratory Bird Day Hike and Beach Clean at Kaua`i National Wildlife Refuge Complex

Help Kaua`i National Wildlife Refuge Complex celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and raise awareness for our feathered friends. This year’s theme is: Protect the Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution. Sign up to be part of a limited group of hikers to visit Nihoku, the conservation crown of Kilauea, where we will visit the red-footed booby colony, observe albatross, shearwaters and great frigate birds in their roosting and nesting habitats. This area can only be visited with special permission, so don’t miss this opportunity! This moderate hike will also take participants to our predator-proof fence where we will discuss the pioneering techniques of our conservation partners in protecting some of Kaua`i’s native species. We will then visit Kahili beach along Kilauea stream to collect marine debris and derelict fishing gear that may pose entanglement risks to our marine animals.
