The Corale Lirica San Rocco will be giving a benefit concert in Bologna on 13 May, as part of the annual celebrations of World Migratory Bird Day. The operatic choir, which gave a concert in Bonn the last four years, will now perform in its home city. The matinee will start at 11.00 hrs in the historical Cappella Farnese di Palazzo D’Accursio.
Under the musical direction of Marialuce Monari, “The Melodrama: The Wings of Love” will take us through arias from major works of Donizetti, Verdi and Ponchielli. It is about love without boundaries translated indifferent ways to remind us of migratory birds that span the globe.
Fernando Spina, a member of the choir, initiated the tradition of the concert as a special contribution to World Migratory Bird Day. He serves as chair of the Scientific Council of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, which together with the Agreement on the Conservation of Migratory African-Eurasian Waterbirds organizes WMBD.
The theme of this year’s World Migratory Bird Day is “Their Future is Our Future – A Healthy Planet for Migratory Birds and People”. Migratory birds are excellent indicators of the state of the planet. We need to preserve their habitats for a sustainable future, because their future is our future. The campaign contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and provides a link to the COP theme.
Entrance to the concert is free but attendees are invited to make a donation. The Italian Federal Ministry of the Environment, the research institute ISPRA and the City of Bologna are benefactors of this event. The proceeds from the concert will be donated to a project related to bird conservation.
