HIMPUS (Poultry Lovers Student Association) is an organization of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, which is engaged in the development and observation of birds in Aceh, Indonesia. HIMPUS has focused on protecting migratory birds in Indonesia since 2014 by carrying out various public awareness efforts.
This year HIMPUS will plan to again hold World Migratory Bird Day celebrations in Indonesia with the aim of increasing public awareness of the welfare of migratory birds with several activities such as guest lectures, art competitions, monitoring and awareness materials.
1. Guest lecture session of WMBD
This activity was carried out to provide knowledge of migratory birds, discuss ways to protect migratory birds in Indonesia, environmental issues on the population and habitat of migratory birds, and the need for conservation of migratory birds. In addition, this study focuses on light pollution which has an impact on migratory birds.
This online activity will be held on 15 May 2022. HIMPUS will invite experienced and competent speakers in the field of environmental conservation and migratory birds in Indonesia. HIMPUS will also invite local organizations, environmentalists, students, and the general public as participants in this activity. This activity will take place online at ZOOM and Live streaming Youtube.
2. Digital art competition
HIMPUS will hold an online competition which will be held in the second week of May 2022. This art competency is a digital painting and poster competition with the theme “Saving our earth for the safety of migratory birds”. The target participants for this competition are students and the community. As a form of appreciation, we give awards to 3 participants with their best work in each category.
3. Monitoring birdwatching
This monitoring activity will be carried out in the second week of May 2022. This activity is carried out to conduct a survey of monitoring the habitat of migratory birds in Indonesia and to see firsthand the problems that exist in the environment to increase awareness. This activity will be followed by several volunteers.
4. Developing promotional material for Bird Migratory Conservation
HIMPUS will campaign for the conservation of migratory birds. We will campaign online on social media as an effort to increase public awareness, materials that will be distributed such as raising the issue of light pollution and so on.
