In the French village of Vaas (72), the local school held an educational event on July 1st to raise awareness towards birds, especially migratory species.
About 120 children aged 3 to 11 were invited to take part in 6 workshops, mixed age, delivered by teachers and parents. They all gained insights into birds' life cycle through arts, singing, science and games. The eldest children had already built birds houses to take home thanks to local craftsmen. The teachers had also started to explore a variety of bird-related topics such as recognising birds silhouettes, feathers, songs etc...
Indeed, as it happens, the village of Vaas is a pit stop for hundreds of migratory birds every year thanks to the river Loir, and the children were curious and excited about this celebratory day.
A board game invented especially for the event gave an opportunity to discuss threats to birds, including light pollution, and what suggestions we might have to protect birds and our planet in general.
A great day was had by all.
