Malaysia has a rich raptor fauna consisting of 45 diurnal species. This high diversity of raptor species is due to two main factors. Malaysia, comprising Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo, is located in the biodiversity-rich tropics of South-east Asia and consequently has 21 resident raptor species. In addition, the location of Peninsular Malaysia at the southern tip of mainland Asia places the country on the route of raptors migrating from northern Asia to wintering grounds in Indonesia, with 24 species recorded so far. The objective of this event is to celebrate the rich diversity of raptors in Malaysia by trying to record as many raptor species as possible over the WMBD week-end. Participants will be invited to contribute their sightings of raptors seen locally on 10 & 11 October 2020. The observations will be compiled into a report for the event.
