Be a Conservation Hero at Home
Whether you live in an apartment in the city or on a farm in the countryside, birds call your neighborhood home. With about 10,000 species worldwide, birds play vital roles in many ecosystems. Traveling thousands of miles, migrating birds connect us with far away landscapes and people.
Unfortunately, birds face many recurring issues in the wide array of habitats they call home and many of those issues are caused by our actions. Invasive species, glass collisions, habitat alteration, and pollution, among other issues cause well over 2 billion bird deaths each year in the U.S. alone.
Our actions are often the problem, but they can also be the solution. From planting native plants in your backyard, decreasing your use of single-use plastics, to keeping lights off at night during migration, there are many ways you can combat the issues facing birds today. Join us at Zoo Atlanta on Saturday, May 11 to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and learn more about what you can do to be a conservation hero at home!
