The Conservation Mission at Baha Mar is to conserve animals and their habitats through education and unique wow moments. It is our vision to inspire stewardship of our living world by providing meaningful experiences to our guests, 5000+ associates and the local community. As a large resort, we are aware of the impact we can have on the surrounding environment if not managed sustainably. Through our commitment to sustainability, the Baha Mar Resort and the Baha Mar Resort Foundation has embarked on several initiatives to reduce, and repurpose our plastic consumption, educate our associates and support regional efforts to ban single use plastics by the end of 2020. World Migratory Bird Day 2019 is being held under the theme “Protect birds: Be the solution to plastic pollution”. This theme is an amalgamation of our sustainability goals and our conservation mission to protect animals and their habitats. As such, on May 18th 2019, the resort’s Wildlife Department, the Baha Mar Resort Foundation and The Explorers Kids Club will host various activities to raise an awareness amongst guests and associates about the challenges of plastic pollution in the environment. Through various activities, we will educate guests and associates about the many ways that plastics can harm birds and offer some ideas for ways that people can reduce their use of plastic items. Reusable grocery bags will be distributed to associates to encourage the reduction in plastic usage as well as to raise an awareness of the regional efforts to ban plastics by 2020.
