The Department decided to have an exhibition of bird materials on the 22nd of May at Ryan's Complex under a tent between 11 am and 3 pm. The pubic was informed about this event through ZJB Radio Community Diary Notices, a MATLHE Facebook post and a text message (from the mobile service provider FLOW). The text message was sent in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. This exhibition included bird posters, bird cards, bird books and other items. During this exhibition, the department gave free bird feeders, nectar recipes (in English and Spanish), bird seeds and reusable shopping bags to the public. Other items were given out such as bird colouring/puzzle pages, English and Spanish bird bands, Department of Environment fridge magnets, English and Spanish bird pamphlets and list of ways to protect birds in Spanish.
Giving out bird feeders would encourage the public to take care of birds in their environment while the reusable shopping bags would encourage them to use less plastic bags thus preventing plastic pollution. By the end of the event One hundred and sixteen (116) bird feeders and one hundred and twenty five (125) reusable shopping bags were given to the public. People from the Spanish and English speaking public received items. There were no visitors from the Haitian Community.
