The Birdwatching Open coincides with World Migratory Bird Day and focuses attention on the important role golf courses can play in providing bird-friendly habitat. The goal is to find as many species as we can, birding Cantigny Golf for most of the day.
As a registered Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, Cantigny Golf is an excellent place to see birds. We’ll concentrate on the non-play areas of the 275-acre property and stay clear of the golfers. This event will be during the peak of spring migration so our list of sightings should be high—expect to see colorful warblers, vireos, tanagers and orioles. We listed 86 species at the 2018 event, topping our previous best of 85 in 2014.
For safety, the Birdwatching Open is limited to 20 participants. To participate, please register in advance with Jeff Reiter: [email protected]. Details will be emailed to registered birders about 10 days before the event.
