Led by Paul Noeldner from the Friends of Urban Nature Group and Connie Gavinski of the Village Center, fourth-graders at Prairie Elementary School will set to out to identify the many species of birds in the Prairie Park Conservancy on May 29.
They will also brainstorm and talk about bird habitat, and with binoculars, spotting scopes and Noeldner’s knowledge of the various distinguishing characteristics, identify as many birds as they could. An amplification system that captured bird calls will help the students learn the sounds unique to each. Another activity will focus on creating hummingbird feeders from recycled materials that students could take home. They will also divide into teams to identify insects, and play a species Bingo game with prizes for the interactive outing.
