Divjaka-Karavasta is the most important wetland bird area in Albania with c252 species registered up to now. It is a National Park and a Ransar site. It shelters huge number of wintering birds and a lot of nesting birds. Its wetland habitats are also a major stopover point for migratory waterbirds following the Adriatic flyway. But it is also under threat due to large and unsustainable plans of industrialization, massive tourism constructions and agriculture intensification.
Increasing local awareness on the international importance of the wetland habitats of Divjaka is crucial for the safeguard of the park and for the millions of birds using this site during migration.
On this purpose AOS and the Regiional Administration for Protected Areas of Fieri will organise a birdwatching and educational activity with kids from local schools. The event will atract the attention of the local media, high profile governemntal authorities and most likely from high representatives of international insitutions present in Albania.
