World Migratory Bird Day Celebration at Aras Bird Research & Education Center

As previous years KuzeyDoga Society will be celebrating World Migratory Bird Day at Aras Bird Research and Education Center in northeastern Turkey. Aras valley is an important bird migration site where millions of passerines and soaring birds migrate from Africa to Eurasia and vice versa. KuzeyDoga Society has been ringing birds in this valley since 2006 and the data we have collected how Aras valley is important for bird migration due to the individuals we retrapped. Aras station had birds coming from all the way from South Africa, northern Russia, Isral whereas the birds we ringed made their way to Hungary, Cyprus and Zambia.

KuzeyDoga Society is organizing a bird camp with the participation of Istanbul International Community High School of biology class and local students from Tuzluca district. The students will be oriented for bird ringing, will check nets, collect birds and experience how they are ringed by our expert ringing specialists. The high school students will be camping for two nights whereas the local students will be visiting a day. There is going to be birdwatching walks along Aras river, owl watching at nights and firecamp activities. KuzeyDoga staff will be giving lectures about birds, bird ringing, the biodiversity within the Aras valley and Igdir province.
