The event "Rwanda Celebration of the World Migratory Bird Day 2011" is organized in cooperation with three (N)GOs from Kigali, namely the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), the Rwanda Birding Association (RDB) and the Association for the Conservation of Nature in Rwanda (ACNR).
On Thursday the 12th we are going to have a TV show with representatives from different sectors (tourism, conservation, government) to announce the event and to discuss about several themes related to it, e.g. the question why the birds and their conservation are of such an importance.
On Sunday 15th, we are planning to have a guided birdwatching trip in the Bugesera district in Southern Rwanda. Since we are expecting around 100 people to participate in the event, we will separate them into 4 groups with two guides in each group. They will visit four different sites and they will all get a checklist of common birds in their area.
After the birdwatching, there will be some speeches hold by representatives of the birding groups.
Later on we are planning to have a creative session. We are going to give each participant a bird cut out of hard paper to write his/her thoughts about the day and the field trip on which we are going to hang up in the entrance hall of the Rwanda Development Board afterwards.
