As Asia’ world city with most dynamic citylife, Hong Kong does preserve some truly impressive wildlife and ecology. Some remarkable habitats and species are protected at the outskirt of Hong Kong, Mai Po1. There, WWF-Hong Kong has a dedicated Research and Monitoring Team on site that works on assessing the effectiveness of the management of different habitats which are homes to the thousands of migratory birds refuge in the marshes and mudflats. “Bird count”, “photo recording” and “ringing” are among those works that bring in the knowledge of birds.
The “Friends of Birds” series is a visit programme that enables participants to closely interact with the core member of the Research & Monitoring Team. The Reserve Officer will reveal in person her interesting day-to-day works, equip them with some basic bird count technique as well as introduce you with the research on bird migration. Thus, be able to understand more about the importance of ecological monitoring to the conservation of bird species, in particular the threatened species such as the Black-faced spoonbill. Participants then follow our interpreter to enter the Deep Bay area to enjoy watching birds!
In addition, 10th - 11th May is the "World Migratory Bird Day", join immediately to explore Mai Po and to learn about the interesting stories of the paradise of birds.
