Birdwatching Day in the Rio Blanco IBA

Birdwatching day in the Rio Blanco IBA
Rio Blanco is an Andean Forest located on the outskirts of Manizales. Land was first acquired in 1904 to protect the Rio Blanco basin as well as other drainage areas in the region (La Guerra, Pinares, Olivares, La Arenosa and La Ye). The area is now a nature reserve ranging in altitude from 2160 to 3690 m. The total area of the reserve is 4343 ha. We have seen 347 species of birds (including 30 migratory birds species like cerulean warbler, 13 between endemics and almost endemics). Seventeen different species of hummingbirds can be observed at the feeders at the Casa Viveros, as well as collections of native orchids and butterflies.
