Ambiente Network ( the Network for the conservation, protection and environmental restoration ) wants to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) with a short consideration. A greeting and a wish for many Italian hunters who, investing money and passion in nature projects management, operate in creating new wetlands from deserted rural areas up to thousands hectares. Although they utilize these wetlands for hunting during a short period (late autumn and wintering months) they really operate for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats, creating new areas for migration, stop-over and breeding for many Bird species. They ameliorate nature and biodiversity bringing pride to all hunter’s category with a positive action often unknown to public opinion not only in Italy but all over the World.
Ambiente Network ( the Network for the conservation, protection and environmental restoration ) wants to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) with a short consideration. Actually , in Italy, we have a lot of Protected Areas like Parks, Sanctuaries and Natural Reserves but in many case they are not well managed or properly protected for the whole environmental heritage with a constant loss of habitats and biodiversity. This is the case of the Roman Littoral Reserve near Rome (Latium) where a bad management risks to cause the decline for many species of Migratory Birds. Celebrating the WMBD in this big Area of Central Italy we want to increase public knowledge about migratory birds and their importance for the international network of wetlands and protected areas in the EU.
