Mr. Sveinung Rotevatn
Minister of Climate and Environment of Norway
Migratory birds are an integral part of ecosystems and human lives. They are cherished by people all over the world. No other group of animals are better studied and as such they are good indicators on the state of our environment. Especially during the covid 19 pandemic, people across the globe are becoming more aware of our reliance on a healthy environment. Migratory birds are one relevant indicator as they are reliant on safe flyways and an international network of habitats. Today I encourage us all to enjoy the beauty of birds themselves and their songs. But also remember what perils they face in our modern world with so many threats to their environment. We must therefore work together across boundaries to protect their habitats and help them thrive for the future.
