Ms. Patricia Espinosa
Executive Secretary, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
The flight of migratory birds marks the passing of seasons, the enduring cycle of life, and a reminder of the delicate balance of nature and humanity’s relationship with it. This delicate balance, however, is endangered by the ultimate threat multiplier: climate change. We cannot ignore that a changing climate is already destroying ecosystems and habitats that these birds—along with other species—depend upon. We must protect migratory birds, but nations and businesses throughout the world must also significantly boost their climate ambition if we are going to protect the biodiversity that sustains all species.
